The Intersection of Gender-Based Violence and Homelessness

9:30am- 11:00am
Presented by the New York State Office for the Prevention of Domestic Violence
Domestic and gender-based violence is a leading cause of homelessness for women and children and most survivors face barriers to accessing shelters and affordable housing. These barriers are often exacerbated for survivors who are Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC). To help participants fully understand the impact that domestic violence has on survivors and their children who may face homelessness as a result of abuse, this 90-minute webinar is designed to provide a fundamental knowledge base on the issue of domestic violence as it intersects with homelessness.
By the end of the webinar, participants will be able to:
- Recognize domestic violence and the barriers to self-sufficiency.
- Respond to survivors and children of domestic violence.
- Understand the impact that domestic violence has on survivors and their children.
- Identify resources available to help survivors find safety and support.
