About the Event
Students who are living in temporary housing may also have an Individualized Education Plan (IEP) which requires a range of services to meet their educational needs. To support our students, there needs to be a coordination of programs that implement the McKinney-Vento Homeless Assistance Act and special education programs which implement the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA). During this session emphasis will be placed on the role of the liaisons in supporting students with disabilities who are living in temporary housing. Specific strategies will be explored to help liaisons and special education staff to create a coordinated approach to serve students in temporary housing who also have disabilities.
Various scenarios and examples involving children with IEPs at all grade levels, attending out of district special education placements (including BOCES) will be explored.
